Issaquah boys basketball team shoots down Bothell

Point guard Brian Watson, often overshadowed by his high-scoring teammate Nick Price, had his best game of the season Jan. 10 when the Issaquah High School boys basketball team whipped visiting Bothell 79-68 in a Kingco Conference 4A contest.

Watson scored 19 points, which included hitting 3 of 3 3-point field goal shots and going 4-for-4 at the free throw line. He also had three assists, three steals and six rebounds to pretty much fill out the stat sheet.

Price, Issaquah’s leading scorer on the season, led the Eagles with 23 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and had two assists. Fletcher Martin added 15 points, 10 rebounds and two assists for Issaquah.

The Eagles, 4-3 in league play and 10-3 overall, shot to a 16-9 first-quarter lead and stayed in front for good.

Bothell’s Perrian Callandret scored a game-high 24 points.

Mount Si tops Liberty

The Liberty High School boys basketball team had the early lead but the Patriots could not put away visiting Mount Si Jan. 10 and lost 59-48 in KingCo Conference 3A/2A action.

Liberty led 15-8 after the first quarter but Mount Si overcame the Patriots in the second period. The Wildcats outscored Liberty 23-9 to take the lead. Mount Si pulled away to a 13-point advantage in the third quarter.

Ryan Atkinson led Mount Si with 17 points.

Liberty’s Robbie Thomas topped all players with 19 points.

Issaquah wrestlers whip Roosevelt

The Issaquah High School wrestling team got pins from five wrestlers Jan. 10 en route to a 45-27 KingCo Conference 4A victory against Roosevelt.

Jordan Hamilton (113), Jerdon Helgeson (138), Taylor Evans (152), Andrew Ramirez (170) and Jonathan Norris (285) registered pins for the Eagles.

Eagles race by Eastlake in KingCo swim meet

Brian Ruggles won two races and swam on two winning relays Jan. 10 as he led the Issaquah High School boys swimming team to a 109-76 victory against visiting Eastlake in a KingCo Conference 4A meet at Julius Boehm Pool.

Ruggles won the 50-yard freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 22.57 seconds and captured the 100 backstroke in 57.70.

The Eagles won the 200 medley relay in a state-qualifying time of 1:42.73. Willy Matsuda, Austin Melody, Gabe Florsheim and Ruggles composed the relay. Ruggles, Matsuda, Dave Nam and Melody composed the Eagles’ winning 400 freestyle relay, which finished first in 3:28.97.

Melody also won the 200 individual medley in a state-qualifying time of 2:02.37 and Florsheim had a state-qualifying time of 54.36 in capturing the 100 butterfly.

Eastlake’s Ed Kim won two events with state-qualifying times. Kim finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.25 and took top honors in the 500 freestyle in 4:45.28.

Liberty swimmers sprint by Juanita

Connor Biehl won two events Jan. 10 to help the Liberty High School boys swimming team race by Juanita 109-76 in a KingCo Conference 3A/2A meet.

Biehl captured the 200 freestyle in 1:58.21 and took the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.03. Teammate Logan Briggs won the 100 backstroke in a state-qualifying time of 56.08. Briggs also anchored Liberty’s winning 400 freestyle relay, which posted a state-qualifying time of 3:23.94. Luke Duschl, Nick Klatt and Kevin Hays were other members of the relay.
