King County Executive Dow Constantine named the administrator of Chicago’s largest critical-care veterinary hospital as the manager for the local animal control agency April 4.

Gene Mueller is scheduled to start as the Regional Animal Services of King County chief June 4.

“Gene brings a strong record of building partnerships with animal welfare groups, as well as experience leading a major metropolitan humane society and running a large veterinary hospital,” Constantine said in a statement.

Mueller most recently led the Chicago Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center, and served as president of the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago. Mueller also led the Commission on Animal Care and Control for Chicago municipal government.

Mueller is due to replace interim Manager Glynis Frederiksen at Regional Animal Services of King County.
