Issaquah Rotary Club honors athletes of the year

The Rotary Club of Issaquah recently honored the following seniors as its athletes of the year:
Aimee Christensen
School: Liberty High School
Parents: Dermont and Miryam Christensen
Nominating teacher: Lisa Beck, cross country coach
Athletic achievements: varsity letters in track, cross country and gymnastics, and is captain of all three teams this year; scholar athlete all four years at Liberty; voted most improved in cross country in 2010
Scholastic achievements: maintained a 3.8 grade point average while taking college courses; won a Young Woman in Excellence Award
Scholastic interests: English and social studies
Hobbies: mountain biking, running, performing community service and being with friends
Outside school affiliations: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Education goals: attend Seattle Pacific University and major in English or communications
Career: undecided, leaning toward something with a nonprofit organization or broadcasting
Evan Cheung
School: Issaquah High School
Parents: Chak and Lisa Cheung
Nominating teacher: athletic department
Athletic achievements: four years varsity tennis; top 50 in state in tennis; top 1,000 in nation in tennis
Scholastic achievements: top 10 percent for the National Finance Capacity test; DECA officer
Scholastic activities: wrote two 30-page business plans; first place for Financial Services DECA competition; qualified for International DECA competition in Utah
Scholastic interests: JSA, DECA, Key Club and National Honor Society
Hobbies: debate, tennis, blogging
Outside school affiliations: Washington Business Week, USTA
Educational goals: major in business administration at St. Mary’s College of California or Berkeley University
Occupation: entrepreneurship
Annie Fairhart
School: Issaquah High School
Parents: Genie and Mark Fairhart
Sponsoring teacher: athletic department
Athletic achievements: Red Robin Athlete of the Month; team captain and most inspirational for varsity gymnastics; 2012 state qualifier for gymnastics; scholar varsity athlete on swim team, cheer squad, track team and gymnastics
Scholastic achievements: 3.97 grade point average; four Advanced Placement classes; quarter awards for French and calculus; student of the month for “most reliable”
Activities: mini cheer camp volunteer; vacation Bible school volunteer for six years
Scholastic interests: Associated Student Body executive board treasurer (running nonacademic school activities and organizes clubs); French Club; National Honor Society
Hobbies: hiking, hanging out with friends, dancing in the rain and laughing
Outside school affiliations: Sunday school teacher and youth group member at Snoqualmie United Methodist Church; gymnastics teacher at Gymnastics East
Education goals: study nursing at University of Washington or Marquette University
Career: nurse practitioner, join the Peace Corps and then continue to travel and “serve in any way I can!”
Hamilton Noel
School: Liberty High School
Parents: Carole and Wright Noel
Athletic achievements: senior captain of wrestling, track and football; wrestling academic state champion in 2010 and 2011; placed second in state in 2010 and 2011 and sixth in 2012; member of the first place state 4×400 relay team; sixth place at state in the pole vault; in football, second team all-league at state and second team in league as linebacker
Achievements: Eagle Scout and a senator in the Associated Student Body senior class
Scholastic interests: calculus, Advanced Placement English and AP psychology
Hobbies: Scouting, beekeeping, knitting, backpacking, sports, riding a unicycle and driving his 1953 Willys Jeep Wagon
Education goals: attend the University of Chicago or Brigham Young University
Career: undecided
