Award winners build enduring community
Achievement, prosperity, longevity, connection, safety, learning … these do not come easy. They are fleeting if not cared for. They must be sought, earned, protected, cherished.
The work of community matters. It is defining and it defines us. From one to another. It is work that connects us.
The work of community is both overt and quiet. It is the sum of the efforts of the whole — a collection of energies in a thousand different directions, brought back to the center and propelled forward by the strain of visionaries and their yearning for betterment.
The work of community is at once bold and timid. It is work that is ongoing and never ceases. It is a work of both pride and humility. But it is always a work of betterment. It is a timeless work of legacy.
The work of community is the tradecraft of selfless contribution, the byproduct of which is a drive for the potential in each of us.
It is a ship where we must all be prepared to assume the helm.
So toil together, in the good work and labor and love of each other. Because the work is good. And noble. It is work that matters. It is the work of togetherness. It’s the work of community. And it endures.

These words were shared at the Issaquah Community Awards Banquet last week. They are worth repeating, in appreciation of the many award winners who grace us with their tireless commitment to building a better community.
Award winners, our hats are off to you!
