The largest convenience store chain on the planet, 7-Eleven, turns 85 on Wednesday — July 11, or 7/11 — and to celebrate, customers can score a Slurpee at no cost.
The iconic beverage is available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as 7-Eleven celebrates 7-Eleven Day. The closest outpost to Issaquah is just outside city limits at 3302 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway S.E. Customers can receive a 7.11-ounce Slurpee at no cost.
“7-Eleven Day, or free Slurpee Day, gets bigger and more popular every year,” Joe DePinto, 7-Eleven president and CEO, said in a statement. “This year we expect to give away 7 million Slurpee drinks, more than ever before, beating last year’s offer by 2 million. On July 11, we at 7-Eleven will recognize our 85th year as the retail leader of convenience, and it will mark the 45th birthday of our iconic drink — the Slurpee. But the day is also when we do something special to thank customers for their support and welcome new guests.”
The chain celebrated the milestone on July 11 for decades, but not until the 75th birthday in 2002 did stores began hosting coast-to-coast birthday parties and offering free Slurpees.
