August 7, 2012
Break out your dancing shoes when the 85th Street Big Band swings onto the summer Concerts on the Green stage Aug. 14 at the Issaquah Community Center.
Picnicking kicks off at 6 p.m., so be sure to bring a blanket. The music fills the air from 7-8:30 p.m. As many as 500 revelers attend, so be sure to come early to stake out your spot.
The 20-piece 85th Street Big Band features swing favorites from the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s made famous by the likes of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. Check out their playlist at www.85thstreetbigband.com.
The concert series, now in its 15th year, is at 301 Rainier Blvd. and is presented by Issaquah’s Parks & Recreation Department and the Issaquah Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah. Kiwanis sells refreshments during the show, including hot dogs and hamburgers.
Be sure not to miss six-string, electric violinist Geoffrey Castle at the next concert series event Aug. 21.
As always, the concerts are free, but donations will be accepted.
