Murielle C. Horskey (Gaucher, Montroy) passed away in Issaquah on Aug. 12 with her daughter, Michele, by her side.

Born on Feb. 28, 1919, in Fall River, Mass., and given the name Mireille, she became the eldest of eight, all of whom spoke French as well as English.

Awarded a full scholarship to Emerson College for drama, Mireille instead chose to help in the war effort, working for Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y., and enlisting into the U.S. Marine Corps. Joseph Montroy followed her to Santa Barbara, and they eventually married.

Mireille studied at Canisius College in Buffalo.

The Montroys had five daughters while living in New York and New Jersey, and Mireille is survived by all: JoAnne Montroy, of S.C., Pierrette Montroy, of Calif., Michele Pearson, of Wash., Leslie Montroy, of S.C., and Aimee Montroy, of Calif. She had nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mireille retired to Hilton Head, S.C., with her second husband, Frederick R. Horskey, in the mid ‘70s, where they played golf and left on numerous world travels.

Relocating to Washington in 2006, Mireille made many friends with whom she combed antique stores and played Scrabble. Many of them will remember her flair for language, drama and humor.

Mother asked that remembrances be directed to the University of Washington Medical School as donations.
