Rapid Response

The city is considering a partnership with the state to improve the aging facilities at Lake Sammamish State Park. What needs to be improved at the park? Should the city or state shoulder the cost or partner to provide improvements?

We can’t even maintain the skateboard park, how will we maintain Lake Sammamish State Park?

The state should stop holding taxpayers hostage. When we don’t vote for their taxes, they punish us not by reducing their own budget or staff but by closing down our neglected parks. The parks on the lakes should be fully staffed with trained lifeguards from sun up to closing.

Absolutely and emphatically yes partner with the state. What a fabulous and beautiful resource we have in our community; we must make every effort (including bond levies) to make it more accessible to our citizens with enhanced use. Take responsibility for sections of the park (e.g. fields multiuse with lights, a beach, some trails) and be willing to shoulder the cost with long-term use agreements and purchase options.

As long as it is a state park, the state should bear the costs, but the city should consider annexation of the park.

RE: Lake Sammamish State Park. I agree with others that this “could be beautiful” park should be annexed by the City of Issaquah, funded with use fees, public donations, and taxes… turned into a park exactly like Coulon Park in Renton, The plan of Coulon is right there for all to see with paths, beaches, boat launches, and so on. Include an Ivar’s and a Kidd Valley as an added bonus just like Coulon and you have the recipe for a successful and welcoming park. Barbara Reul, Issaquah
