Florence Watkins

Florence L. Watkins passed away peacefully Oct. 4, 2012, at the family home in Issaquah.

Florence was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Snoqualmie, the oldest child of Cecil and Dorothy Simpson.

She graduated as the valedictorian for Mount Si High School class of 1951. In September 1952, she married Walt Watkins and the couple settled in Issaquah, where they lived until his passing in November 1994. She later enjoyed seven years with John Meyers in Seven Bays, until moving to be closer to her daughters.

Florence enjoyed a variety of hobbies in her life. She was an avid fisherman and loved to travel. She loved playing cards with her friends and dominoes with her grandchildren. Florence enjoyed league bowling, and was gifted at needlepoint and knitting. She was also a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Florence defied the odds by beating pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in spring 1999. She proudly participated and supported Relay for Life events through the American Cancer Society in Seattle and Colville.

Family was most important to Florence. She is survived by her two daughters, Jayne Evans (Rick) and Julie Watkins-Jarvies (Monty); her grandchildren Seth Evans (Katie), Amanda LeCaire (Aaron), Katie McDermott, Cassandra Goodell (Gordon), and Kara McDermott; and three great-grandsons, Nathan and Connor Evans and Archer LeCaire. She is also survived by numerous extended family members.

Her family would like to thank all the friends and family members who visited Florence, giving her and her family comfort, as well as the kind and caring staff of Aegis of Issaquah and the angels of Providence Hospice.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Lower Hillside Cemetery in Issaquah with a reception to follow at the Community Church of Issaquah. Visitation will be held at Flintoft’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 3-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances be made to the American Cancer Society via http://main.acsevents.org/goto/karamcd2013 or by sending checks to ACS, Attn: Relay for Life of Green Lake, 2120 First Ave. N., Seattle, WA, 98109, and referencing participant No. 1992510; or to Providence Hospice of Seattle, www.providencehospiceofseattle.org, 425 Pontius Ave. N., No. 300, Seattle, WA, 98109.
