After a couple of phenomenal post-season runs on the road, it is quite possible a tandem of KingCo 4A Crown Division rivals, Issaquah and Skyline, may be paired off in the girls state soccer championship showdown, in Puyallup’s Sparks Stadium at 4 p.m. Nov. 17.
Between Skyline and Issaquah, neither is an easy mark.
The last time they met was Oct. 23 when the two squads dueled to a scoreless tie.
Issaquah celebrated a 2-0 road victory over the Tides in Gig Harbor’s home digs Nov. 7. Then, the Eagles, currently sporting an 18-2-1 overall mark, went toe-to-toe with Central Valley, of Spokane.
Issaquah befuddled the home crew, shutting out Central Valley, 2-0, behind commendable midfield play and the goalkeeping wizardry of Tala Fry.
Meanwhile, the 15-1-3 Spartans also hit the road and emerged the hero twice — toppling Vancoulver 2-1 on Nov. 7, then blanking Puyallup 1-0.
With time quickly dwindling in regulation, Skyline’s Amanda Johnston shuttled an assist in the 74th minute to Anna Deweirdt. Deweirdt alertly sent a fireball sizzling into the Puyallup webbing for the encounter’s only goal.
