Rotary Club of Issaquah honors students of the month

The Rotary Club of Issaquah recently honored the following seniors as students of the month for October:
Jessica Basi
School: Liberty High School
Category of recognition: science
Parents: Sarbjlt and Gurjlt Basi
Scholastic achievements: National AP scholar, 5 on Advanced Placement biology, AP U.S. history, AP language and composition
Activities: more than 400 hours of volunteer service, National Honor Society member
Scholastic interest: biology, psychology
Hobbies: reading, volunteering
Outside school affiliations: Puget Sound Blood Center volunteer, Watershed Report leadership team
Education goals: four-year university, then graduate school to earn an M.D.
Occupation/career: physician
Adam Florsheim
School: Issaquah High School
Category of recognition: math
Parents: Adina and Alan Florsheim
Scholastic achievements: 12th in class rank; AP scholar; KingCo student athlete
Athletic honors: three-time all-state goalie; captain of Issaquah High School swim team; competitor at Junior Olympics
Activities: National Honor Society, Senior Service Award
Scholastic interest: math, computer science and physics
Hobbies: water polo, fantasy football
Outside school affiliations: coach Newport Water Polo, play for PNW Shores
Education goals: attend MIT (hopefully) and study mechanical engineering
Occupation/career: Be an engineer behind the newest and safest sports equipment, i.e., football helmets that protect from concussions.
Michael Shaw

Scholastic achievements: National Merit Scholar, National Honor Society, 800 math SAT
Athletic honors: cross country captain, lettered in wrestling every year
Scholastic interest: The Beat editor, Patriot Press, violinist in orchestra (four years)
Hobbies: varsity cross country and wrestling
Education goals: attend four-year college (MIT or University of Washington) to obtain engineering degree
Occupation/career: aerospace or mechanical engineering
Nikita Sirohi

Parents: Gayatri and Ashwani Sirohi
Scholastic achievements: 2340 SAT, 35 ACT, AP Scholar with distinction, National Merit semifinalist
Athletic honors: lettered in cross country (varsity and junior varsity)
Activities: coached teams to finish in the top 10 for a math competition
Scholastic interest: math, science, English and Spanish
Hobbies: running, dressmaking, reading, writing, playing “Bloons Tower Defense”

Alex Tamasan
