Caring Through Sharing

Picture 1 of 12

Deborah McConnell, of Sammamish, a member of Spirit of Peace UCC, adds plush toys to a stack at Pickering Barn during gift drop-off day Dec. 11, as the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank mobilized volunteers, groups and donors from throughout the community to collect, drop off and sort donations of clothes, toys, bikes and books to fill the barn to the brim. It became a department store for the holidays, as The Caring through Sharing Program, a holiday gift program for Issaquah School District children from birth to age 18, served 971 children and more than 400 families, who registered for shopping opportunities held Dec. 12 and 13. ‘Pretty amazing, isn’t it?’ McConnell asked. ‘What a great community we live in.’ By Greg Farrar / The Issaquah Press
