Issaquah High School coach sees potential in gymnasts’ loss

Due to circumstances beyond their control (holiday band concerts and illnesses depleting the Eagles’ varsity roster) the Issaquah High School gymnastics squad posted one of the lowest totals Dec. 13 at Bothell High School with a 136.45 effort, losing to Woodinville, Bothell and Ballard.

The good news, though, for the Eagle tumblers is that there is nowhere to go but up.

Sporting a 2-3 league mark heading into the holiday break, 13-year IHS head gymnastic coach Ryan Fleisher said she sees nothing but potential for growth and improvement from her predominantly junior squad.

The 2013 campaign will feature a handful of talented competitors and athletes nailing it on the floor and beam.

Led by senior captain Ashley Hoffman, Issaquah figures to be a force in the KingCo 4A with experienced and strong all-around performers in Rebecca Chinn, Amanda Dumont, Lexi Fleek and Elise Bugge. Additionally, freshman Michaela Knollmann will grow into the program, according to Fleisher.
