Just before the holiday break, the Issaquah High School boys basketball squad hosted a heavily favored Ballard squad and racked up a KingCo 4A triumph, bashing the Beavers, 59-51.
In the second half, Issaquah rallied to outscore Ballard, 36-23, and sail to an easy victory that escalated its league record to 3-2. Ryan Sexton and Ty Gibson combined for 29 points, most of which came in the second half.
The Eagles played in Bothell’s Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27 -28, and pulled out a couple of narrow wins. In the tournament’s first round, Issaquah trimmed Shorecrest, of the Wesco League, 46-45.
The Eagles trailed at the end of the third period, 33-26, but bounced back in the fourth period to outscore the Scots, 20-12, with strong efforts from Brian Watson and Gibson, who teamed up for 22 points.

Issaquah’s conference mark fell to 2-2 and its overall record dropped to 4-2 Dec. 18 as it lost to a visiting No. 1 ranked Class 4A Bothell bunch, 67-64.
Issaquah had more than its fair share of difficulties trying to defend against Cougar ace Zack LaVine, who poured in 35 points and was the game’s top scorer.
“We just did a really poor job of upsetting LaVine’s timing,” Issaquah head coach Jason Griffin said. “He gave us fits and was in so much of a zone that everything he put up was going in, including some pretty long shots from outside the perimeter.”
The Eagles trailed 52-42 at the end of the third frame and despite a fourth period in which they outscored Bothell 22-15, they could not make up the deficit.
Issaquah’s Gibson and Brian Watson combined to score 34 points as they managed 18 and 16 points, respectively.
