Washington high school juniors and seniors interested in a law enforcement career can spend a week learning about job opportunities in the field.

The 36th annual Washington State Patrol-Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Career Camp is accepting applications. May 10 is the application deadline.

The camp provides high school students with the opportunity to explore job opportunities in the law enforcement field. Participants can experience the law enforcement problems and challenges encountered by officers on a daily basis, and then learn how to handle the situations in a professional manner.

State troopers and officers from police departments  instruct and serve as counselors. Speakers from various agencies provide firsthand information to the students.

The summer camp is scheduled for the Washington State Patrol Academy in Shelton from July 7-13.

This academy is sponsored and paid for by Kiwanis clubs statewide and other supporters.
