Change is coming to the Sammamish Club fitness and tennis facility at the base of Cougar Mountain.

Seattle-based Arena Sports intends to purchase the property. Plans call for the company upgrade the pool and fitness areas, and convert the tennis courts into a soccer field and indoor inflatable playground.

Arena Sports also operates facilities at Seattle’s Magnuson Park, South Seattle and Redmond.

The closing date for the Sammamish Club property is set for March 1.

The property consists of adjoining structures — a 24,000-square-foot indoor tennis facility built in 1978 and a 24,148-square-foot fitness facility built in 1999 — on 4.46 acres visible from Interstate 90 and Newport Way Northwest.

The fitness facility includes a 25-yard enclosed swimming pool, spa and massage facilities, aerobic and training studios, and other amenities.

This is really a shame for the vibrant tennis community the Sammamish Club has enabled in Issaquah.

Probably just a business decision. I would guess that Arena Sports is able to charge quite a bit more money to support team sports like soccer on the same amount of property compared to tennis.

They’ll typically support 20 players (5-v-5 + subs) per hour on the size of a tennis court for indoor soccer, compared to two or four tennis players.

Issaquah also has a lot of soccer players by the number of outdoor fields in this area. They’re just trying to make a buck.

My wife & I are current members of the Sammamish Club. (since 2000)

Questions: 1. Will the rates stay the same so that you are competitive with
    Golds Gym & 24 hr. fittness ?

    2. Will the hours stay the same for the Pool & Gym ?

3.Will there be any down time at the change over or will the operation
    be continuous?

Yes, this is very unfortunate for all Eastside tennis players. Will miss Perry and the rest of the staff there. Also a blow to the Issaquah youth tennis programs.

Be nice to see someone step into the void here.
