Friends of state park begin organizing

Residents interested in forming a Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park organization met with state park officials last week to set some priorities and next steps.

About 20 people attended and identified priority goals, including a better focus on the lake and trails, increased year-round use and creating an awareness of the park and its offerings.

Five community leaders agreed to be an organizing committee and lead the establishment of the organization, starting with registering as a nonprofit organization with the state. A board of directors will be elected in the future.

The five were Chris Kovac, David Kappler, Debbie Berto, Connie Marsh and Jim Berry. They will meet in coming weeks to set a timeline before calling the next meeting. About 50 people have expressed interest in helping form the Friends group.
