The King County Library system is one of two Washington state finalists for the National Medal for Museum and Library Services.

The award, presented by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is the highest honor given to museums and libraries for service to the community. The Pierce County Library system is the other state finalist.

Finalists are selected from nationwide nominations. They are chosen because of significant contributions to their community.

The winners will be announced in late April. Winners receive a $5,000 award and can participate in an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is encouraging people who have visited a finalist to share their story at www.facebook.com/USIMLS.
