Movie: “Beautiful Creatures”

Based on the novel “Beautiful Creatures,” by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, this film was released on Valentine’s Day and has grossed almost $17 million worldwide. This supernatural love story is set in the deep South, where two star-crossed lovers, Ethan and Lena, learn more about the dark pasts of their families and town. Ethan is a young man longing to escape his small town and Lena is the intriguing new girl at his school.

If you like the fantasy genre, this will be right up your alley with an exceptionally strong cast that is absolutely spellbinding.

There have been mixed reviews about the film having a similar concept to the long-famed “Twilight” series, but “Beautiful Creatures” has a unique take on mortal meets immortal and everyone should check it out!

Music: Mumford & Sons

Mumford & Sons

Mumford & Sons

“Babel,” the second studio album by the British indie folk band Mumford & Sons, was released in September and recently won the award for Best Album at the 2013 Grammys.

The album first debuted as No. 1 in both the U.K. and U.S., and became the fastest selling album of 2012 in the U.K. and the second-biggest selling debut in 2012 in the U.S.

“Babel” features bluegrass and folk instruments, such as the banjo, upright bass, mandolin and piano, and much of Mumford & Sons’ lyrical content has strong literary influences.

Book: “Modelland,” by Tyra Banks

Although released some time ago, “Modelland,” by world famous model Tyra Banks, still has a firm spot on the teen bestseller list. The novel is about young Tookie and her socially awkward friends and their quest for acceptance in a rigorous program that produces the world’s finest models.

Banks was inspired to write this novel through her contemplation of what makes supermodels truly “super.” This is a must read for every teenage girl.
