Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park will meet for the first time April 18, encouraging attendees to join in the preservation of the park.

An organizing group of five, chaired by Chris Kovac, hopes “to use the resources and energy of parks lovers in the community to improve the state park for everyone’s benefit.”

With volunteers and fundraising, the group expects to help see the conceptual park plan adopted years ago to be implemented. Friends will also make recommendations on other park upgrades that the community desires.

At Thursday’s meeting, attendees will be able to become charter members, sign up for a committee, share information about priorities and apply for a seat on the board of trustees.

Other organizers, who will now become board members, include David Kappler, Jim Berry, Connie Marsh and Debbie Berto.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at Gibson Hall, 105 Newport Way S.W.
