The boys golf state championships may not kick off until May 21, but Skyline High School junior Brian Mogg has already bested Washington’s top 116 players.

Mogg shot a 73-73 May 3 to win the invite-only Bill Egbers Memorial Golf Tournament, which featured the state’s top 116 boys 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A high school golfers.

After finishing his second round at the par 71 Skagit Golf and Country Club with a total of 146, Mogg beat his nearest competitor, Patrick Sato, from Interlake, by two strokes. Representing Issaquah High School at the tournament was freshman Zach Overstreet, who shot a 158.

The boys will all meet again at the 4A State Tournament May 21-22 at Camas Meadows Golf Club. There, Mogg will be joined by teammate Kelley Sullivan. Issaquah is set to send both Overstreet and senior Bryan Jung.
