Value Village eyes move into empty Albertsons building

Value Village may be moving into the empty Albertsons building on East Lake Sammamish Parkway.
According to the city’s Development Services Department, executives from the Bellevue-based, for-profit thrift store held a pre-application meeting the week of June 17.
“They are in the feasibility stage on this,” Development Services associate planner Jason Rogers said. “They came in because they wanted to see what it would take to move them in there.”
Rogers said Value Village eyed occupying the building without changing any outside aspects. With Albertsons retaining ownership of the parcel, he said that the secondhand store would only lease one-third of the existing space. Albertsons has an eye on splitting up the existing big box-style building into three smaller leasable pieces.
“They are looking at doing a fairly straight-forward inside renovation,” Rogers said of Value Village. “It would be a quicker process since this is an existing building.”
The building has been empty since Albertsons closed its grocery store in 2008.
The project is currently listed as being in preliminary review in the city’s active projects list.
It lists Albertsons plans to turn the property into a multitenant site.
“Building improvements will include canopy reductions and additions, new storefronts and repaint,” the description reads. “Site improvements will include added truck loading and restricted parking.”
