On the afternoon of July 2, a Douglas County landowner fired warning shots to keep an Issaquah parasailer off of his property.

According to Douglas County Undersheriff Don Culp, Issaquah resident Matthew Senior was flying over Box Canyon at only 60 to 80 feet over the ground when the unidentified property owner stepped out of his house and fired a shotgun into the air. Culp said Senior continued to fly over the land and exchanged harsh words with the landowner who proceeded to reload and shoot again in warning.

“The landowner said that he did not make any attempt to shoot directly at the parasailer, only warning shots in the air,” Culp said.

Senior contacted the sheriff’s office once he landed and the firearm was turned over to authorities. Culp said the county prosecutor’s office will determine whether there will be any charges brought.

“No charges have been filed, yet,” he said.
