State park debuts watercraft launch

Lake Sammamish State Park’s newly improved watercraft launch will officially open July 18 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new launch includes metal piers, replacing old wooden pieces. It also includes docks that extend farther into the lake than before, resolving flooding issues and addressing changes in water levels occurring over time.

The improvements also include a new lane configuration and new ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act criteria. In addition, local jurisdictions worked together on rain gardens to treat storm water from an adjacent parking lot.

Locals are encouraged to join the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park for the event to get a close-up look at the new launch, and enjoy social time and refreshments with friends and neighbors.

The ceremony is at 9 a.m. July 18 at the park, 2000 N.W. Sammamish Road. The entrance to the boat launch is off of East Lake Sammamish Parkway.

Fees to use the improved watercraft launch remain the same. Boaters paying by the day are required to purchase a $7 watercraft launch permit and also display the Discover Pass.
