County schedules extra filing period for Fire Protection District 10 commissioner

July 30, 2013

By Staff

King County Elections will hold a three-day candidate-filing period for a commissioner position at King County Fire Protection District No. 10.

The special filing period will begin at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 7 and end at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 9. Fire Protection District No. 10 covers areas around Issaquah, Carnation, Preston and Sammamish.

The new filing period follows the May filing period, in which no candidates stepped up. Candidates who file will appear on the Nov. 5 election ballot. There are no filing fees.

Those in commissioner positions are responsible for governing fire protection for the district. Commissioners meet monthly, and two commissioners for District 10 also meet with Eastside Fire & Rescue board members, which may entail more meetings. As of July, commissioners receive payment of $114 per day with an annual compensation limit of $10,944. Work beyond the annual compensation limit is unpaid.

To file, complete a declaration of candidacy in person at King County Elections, 919 S.W. Grady Way, Renton.
