The Common Ground Gospel choir, led by director Dan Hegelund, will open an Issaquah academy Sept. 1.

Hegelund’s choirs are big, energetic affairs, giving participants the chance to sing music by contemporary secular and gospel artists in a fun, inviting atmosphere, he said.

He started the choirs in March 2013, shortly after moving his family from Sweden to Issaquah. He has choirs for children, adults and seniors, offering a variety of singing styles and genres.

The new school, at 150 Gilman Blvd., Suite D, will also offer immersion courses in Swedish, Danish and Russian, combining foreign language courses with foreign language choirs.
