Gerald Francis Petersen
November 12, 2013
Gerald Francis Petersen, longtime Issaquah resident, passed away Nov. 5, 2013, at the age of 88.
Gerald was born Sept. 15, 1925, at Bronson Memorial Hospital, in Renton, to Louis and Eva Petersen.
He grew up in Coalfield. He graduated in 1943 from Issaquah High School, where he was active in the Future Farmers of America.
It was war time, so he joined the U.S. Army Air Force, training at bases including Amarillo, Texas, and Buckley Field, Colo.
He returned home in 1945, and started the Louis E. Petersen & Son Logging Co. with his father. They logged throughout the Northwest, building roads on Mount Si that are still there to this day.
Jerry and Vi were married in Renton on Oct. 12, 1946. They moved into the Issaquah Reini home, where they lived for 67 years.
Jerry loved to hunt, go on family boating trips in the San Juans, golfing at Crescent Bar, and wintering in Arizona and Mexico. In his golden years, he really enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. You could always count on taking something home from his garden.
Jerry had a great sense of humor, and loved to tell a good story.
Survivors include wife Viola Petersen, of Issaquah; children David Petersen, of Renton, Dana Cochran, of Quincy, Darcy and Joel Fish, of North Bend, and Dara Paskey, of North Bend; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
