Issaquah, Sammamish make NerdWallet’s top 10 list for job seekers

The website NerdWallet has placed Issaquah and Sammamish in its top 10 best places for job seekers in Washington state. Issaquah came in second, while Sammamish was No. 5.

NerdWallet.com is a personal finance and credit card comparison website launched in March 2010. The site writes recommendations on credit cards, personal finance options, discounts and gas prices.

For its list of best places of job seekers, it looked at the following criteria:

  • Is the city growing? It looked at data from 2009-12. Issaquah grew 23.6 percent, while Sammamish’s population rose 13.7 percent.
  • Can you afford to live in the city comfortably? It looked at median household income rates. Issaquah’s was $87,038. Sammamish’s was $135,432.
  • Are most people employed? Unemployment in Issaquah sits at 3.5 percent. In Sammamish, it’s at 4.2 percent.

Topping the list was Lake Stevens. Rounding out the list were Marysville, Renton, Burien, Redmond, Kent, Kirkland and Bothell.
