Water district hosts budget, rate adjustments public meeting

The Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District hosts a public meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the district office, 1510 228th Ave. S.E., Sammamish.

The Board of Commissioners will consider adoption of the 2014 budget and proposed rate adjustments. The public is invited to provide input and comments.

The district’s cost of service study in 2011 identified annual rate adjustments of 6 percent for water and a range of 17 percent to 25 percent for sewer service from 2012 through 2016. In 2014, the district is proposing a rate adjustment of 4 percent for water and 6 percent for sewer.

The district’s budget and fiscal model is based upon long-term financial projections which balance resources needed to fund current operating costs, while accumulating reserve funding to replace capital assets as they age and depreciate, according to a press release from the district. If the board adopts the proposed 2014 rate adjustments Dec. 9, the monthly water base rate for a single-family residential customer using 700 cubic feet would increase by $1.38 to $36.55. The district’s monthly sewer rate for a single-family residential customer would increase by $1.75 to $30.95.
