A new tradition begins tonight with the first parade of boats decked out in holiday lights on Lake Sammamish at 5 p.m. at the state park beach.

Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park invite the public to sing carols around a bonfire and sip hot chocolate while enjoying the magic of the twinkling lights on the boats from the beach. Visitors will need a Discover Pass to enter the park or pay a $10 admission fee per carload.

Boaters will proceed from the state park around the southern half of the lake until 8 p.m. The following weekend, they will be back to cruise the north end of the lake Dec. 14.

Boaters interested in decorating their boat and joining the parade should call 449-0070. The boat parade is coordinated by the Lake Sammamish Yacht Club.
