Christmas fund keeps giving all year long

Not all Christmas wish lists are created equal.

A single mom just wants to be sure we don’t have another cold spell this winter or the electric bill won’t get paid. An elderly man living on Social Security could sure use a new pair of reading glasses. A young couple with new jobs is doing well with loan payments — but now the car needs repairs to get them to their jobs. One of four kids in a family has medical problems that have overwhelmed the family budget and an eviction notice is in the mail.

These are the people who need some financial assistance. Thanks to the Merry Christmas Issaquah fund, Issaquah Community Services will be able to help, just as it has for more than three decades.

Merry Christmas Issaquah accounts for about 80 percent of Issaquah Community Services’ annual budget. The local nonprofit organization helps hundreds of families inside Issaquah School District boundaries each year.

Those who turn to ICS for assistance are often employed, holding their own — until a situation changes, turning their household budget upside down. Finances become an emergency.

We encourage Issaquah families to consider a tax-deductible 501(c)(3) donation to Merry Christmas Issaquah. This newspaper is proud go be associated with the fund since its inception in 1981. We can assure you that your donation could not find a better home.

One hundred percent of your donation goes to families in need. There is no paid staff, and a city grant covers overhead costs. And your donation helps neighbors who might live just down the block.

Send donations to Merry Christmas Issaquah, c/o The Issaquah Press, P.O. Box 1328, Issaquah, WA 98027.
