Gertrude Risdon, a longtime resident of Issaquah, passed away Dec. 12, 2013, one week after her 89th birthday. An incredibly caring and devoted mother, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Those who knew her loved her.
She was born Gertrude Christina Anderson on Dec. 5, 1924, the daughter of Signe and Edward Anderson. She had three younger siblings, Edward Jr., Helen and Inez. In her early years, she lived in Ballard. This was during the Great Depression, which left a lasting impression and shadow of her family’s hard times.
In 1937, she moved to Tolt (Carnation), where her family bought a dairy farm. She graduated from Tolt High School in 1943.
During World War II, she met and married Ivan A. Risdon, moving to Issaquah at the war’s end. In 1948, they bought their property along Hobart Road, creating another small family farm and living the independent lifestyle that she loved so much.
Gertrude and Ivan were married for 69 years and lovingly raised four boys, Ronald, Glenn, Gary and Mark. She was preceded in death by her son Gary.
