Donald Benson, 78, of Sammamish, died Christmas morning.

Born and raised in South Dakota, Don moved to Washington in 1964, settling in Sammamish in 1988. He joined Associated Grocers in 1967, becoming president in 1986, a position held until his retirement in 2000.

Above all, Don valued his faith and his family. He is survived and loved deeply by Janet, his wife of 32 years; daughters Laurie (Dusty) Henry, of Sequim, Lynn (Shawn) Fedina, of Sedro Woolley, and Lana (Mike) Johnson, of Arlington; son Mark, of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Issaquah. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his beloved church, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran; Trinity Lutheran College in Everett; Mercy Corps or a charity of your choice.
