Cascade Water Alliance seeks input to update goals

The Cascade Water Alliance is seeking community input as it sets its 2020 water efficiency goal and determines how best to provide the water efficiency services that will help save the most amount of water.

Setting and meeting a goal for wise water use helps ensure a reliable water supply, keeps costs lower to ratepayers and allows more water to stay in streams, the alliance said in a news release. In the past 10 years, residents who used water wisely helped save millions of gallons of water regionally. Wise water use today helps ensure future water reliability.

Registration for Bellevue College’s retiree programs opens

Bellevue College is now enrolling retirees for its fall quarter TELOS program.

Course topics range from art to technology, and courses are offered during the day, in the evenings and on weekends.

The TELOS program, operating since 1976, is designed to fit the lifestyle and interests of retirees, with a focus on learning and growth, not performance.

RAM Restaurant & Brewery opens Sept. 30

The Issaquah Highlands’ RAM Restaurant & Brewery will open its doors to customers Sept. 30.

Known for legendary hand-crafted burgers and award-winning craft beers, the newest restaurant is at 965 N.E. Park Drive.

The company’s 11th Puget Sound location will span more than 6,500 square feet, and accommodate seating for 260 diners.

State Rep. Tana Senn is ready to serve

Mercer Island City Councilwoman Tana Senn is the state’s newest lawmaker, having been appointed to fill the 41st District state representative seat vacated by Marcie Maxwell.

The Metropolitan King County Council appointed her Sept. 9. Senn was the top choice of local Democratic Party officials to fill the vacancy created by Maxwell’s decision to join Gov. Jay Inslee’s education staff.

Since her appointment, Senn, 42, has hit the ground running, meeting with 41st District mayors, and attending local events in the district that stretches from the northern parts of Renton to the southern parts of Sammamish, encompassing Mercer Island and Newcastle, and parts of Issaquah and Bellevue.

FISH hosts Public Officials Day Sept. 25

The Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery is hosting a special event to educate local elected leaders and the public about the importance of the hatchery and salmon conservation.

Officials from the area have been invited to a special presentation at 2 p.m. Sept. 25. FISH’s board of directors has invited City Council members, school district directors, water district commissioners, Metropolitan King County Council members, and state lawmakers from cities and districts that surround Lake Sammamish.

The purpose of Public Officials Day is to acquaint those who make decisions within the Lake Sammamish watershed with the value of this historic and active facility in their own backyard.

Oct. 7 is the deadline for mail-in registration, address change and other updates.

State park proposals have merits, limits

Washington State Parks needs to seek specific Requests for Proposals for improvements to Lake Sammamish State Park, the jewel at the mouth of Issaquah Creek.

Earlier this month, State Parks and the city of Issaquah received only three proposals in response to its call for RFPs. The two agencies were trying to get outside-the-box ideas that would add to Lake Sammamish park’s bottom line as well as help the city’s economic development.

The three each have merits.

Volunteer drivers needed to support local seniors

Senior Services’ Volunteer Transportation program is seeking drivers to shuttle local seniors to medical appointments.

Volunteers pick up seniors at their home, drive them to the doctor and take them back immediately afterward. Many older adults are currently unable to get rides though, because there are not enough volunteers to serve their needs.
