Merry Christmas Issaquah fund that supports emergency financial assistance for Issaquah families has set a new record in total donations.

Nearly $86,000 has been donated in the past five weeks by 257 donors. That represents a 25 percent increase over last year’s $68,683 from 244 donors. The goal was $75,000.

The fund has been spearheaded by The Issaquah Press since 1981 to support the work of the nonprofit Issaquah Community Services.

“It’s very exciting to see the donations increase,” ICS treasurer Pat Randall said. “And this doesn’t even count the matching funds still to come from donor employers.”

ICS uses the funds to help keep people in their homes when faced with eviction or help with utility bills and other life necessities when there is no money to spare. Funds are never given directly to a client.

The Christmas fund drive is now closed, but contributions are welcome anytime. Send them directly to ICS, P.O. Box 669, Issaquah, WA 98027.
