Local gymnasts medal at state

Only two Issaquah athletes earned medals at the girls state gymnastics finals Feb. 21-22 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

Issaquah High School’s Amanda Dumont placed eighth on the bars with a score of 8.4.

Skyline High School’s Rikki Uhrich scored a 9.325 on the floor exercise, good enough for a sixth-place finish.

KingCo coaches select all-conference players

Class 4A KingCo Conference basketball coaches selected their all-conference teams in February.

 

Boys

Coach of the Year: Jason Griffith, Issaquah

First team: Ty Gibson, junior, Issaquah

Second team: Jake Henke, senior, Issaquah; Brian Watson, senior, Issaquah

Honorable mention: Issaquah — Cory Nevin Skyline — Robert Biegaj and Jonah Eastern

 

Girls

First team: Seniors Mandie Hill and Mackenzie Wieburg, Issaquah

Second team: Shelby Kassuba, senior, Skyline

Honorable mention: Issaquah — Sarah Hiegel; Skyline — Bryn deVita and Alex Daugherty

 

Two girls on preseason all-state lacrosse team

Skyline High School senior Katie Bucy and Issaquah High School junior Suzie Emerson were named to the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association’s preseason all-state team.

Bucy and Emerson both play for the Issaquah lacrosse program. Emerson is a junior midfielder, and Bucy, a senior attacker, will play next year at Lindenwood (Mo.) University.

 

Skyline High School athletic director resigns

Ryan Gilbert, Skyline High School’s athletic director, resigned his position effective March 1, and will take a job with SAMBICA youth summer camp in Bellevue.

Gilbert spent two years as Skyline’s A.D.; he will serve as ministries director for SAMBICA, a Christian-based organization that has been around for 94 years.

Gilbert is a 1998 graduate of Issaquah High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Pepperdine University, and a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Washington.

Prior to his arrival at Skyline, he spent eight years teaching science at Inglewood Middle School in the Lake Washington School District.
