Karen Moran, of Sammamish, has been appointed to fill the empty seat on the Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer board of directors.

Moran will fill the seat left open after Bob Brady’s resignation. Her term runs through December 2015.

Moran has served on the State Boundary Review Board, the Sammamish Planning Advisory Board and Sammamish Planning Commission. She made two failed bids for the Sammamish City Council, most recently in 2007.

Moran is an accountant, with a background as a small business owner. She has also been active in Kiwanis and served on committees in the Lake Washington School District.

“I see the main issues that confront the district as continued preservation of our water, including water quality, continued discussion with the city of Sammamish regarding water district assumption, and continued long term planning,” Moran said in a news release.

Moran beat out four others — Steven B. Muhlestein, Mahbubul Islam, Robert J. Conn II and Frederick M. Issac — who had applied for appointment to the seat.
