My first day at work: sitting in front of a computer for four hours watching training videos. My second day at work: sitting in front of a computer for four hours watching training videos.
I am praying with all of my heart that my third day of work will involve the excitement of (gasp) putting items in bags for four hours! It will probably be more training videos.
Minimum-wage jobs are terrible. I had always known this, but somehow managed to convince myself that working at a grocery store would be more exciting than it is. I can’t remember the magical image of an interesting and creative workplace that I was thinking of when I applied, but it certainly didn’t involve the hours upon hours of monotonous work for minimum wage that is the reality.
I knew this was how it was going to be, though, despite whatever lies I told myself before I started. My whole reason for working instead of spending my summer goofing off and having fun is so that I can spend my whole freshman year of college goofing off and having fun instead of working. And the experience is certainly making me more convinced that I really, really want a degree that will let me avoid having to do this for an actual living. Until then, though, I have more training videos to watch. Hooray.
