Tonight’s Washington Lacrosse Girls State Championship Game between Issaquah and the Lake Sammamish Lacrosse Club will be streamed live to a national audience by StudentSports.com.
The 22nd annual girls state title game gets under way at 7:30 p.m. at Islander Stadium in Mercer Island.
Issaquah, the second best girls prep team in Washington state this spring with a 13-2-1 record, is made up of student-athletes from Issaquah, Liberty and Skyline high schools in the Issaquah School District.
Issaquah is making just its second state title game appearance. In its only championship game appearance, Issaquah was the Division II state runner up to Mercer Island in 2009.
Issaquah is led by midfielder Suzy Emmerson, an Issaquah High School junior, with 72 goals, 12 assists and 36 ground balls in 15 games. Averaging 5.65 goals-per-game, Emmerson had a season-high nine goals in Issaquah’s 16-8 win against Seattle Prep on April 14.
In their only meeting this spring, on May 2, Issaquah edged Lake Sammamish 8-7, handing the club one of just two losses this spring.
Issaquah’s only blemishes came in a 15-10 loss to the Oregon Episcopal School, a 13-7 loss to Bainbridge High School and a 10-10 tie with Lakeside.
The Lake Sammamish Lacrosse Club, the top girls prep team in the state this spring with a 14-2-0 record, is a combined high school team from the Northshore and Lake Washington school districts.
Lake Sammamish is making its third state title game appearance in three years and fourth overall.
Lake Sammamish is led by attacker Emily Sokol an Inglemoor senior with 44 goals, nine assists and 15 ground balls. Averaging 3.53 goals-per-game, Sokol tallied a season’s-best five goals in Lake Sammamish’s 8-7 win against Eastside Catholic on May 12.
