The Issaquah Press has again been named the best nondaily newspaper in five states by the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Press received the first-place General Excellence award May 17 at the 2013 SPJ Northwest Excellence in Journalism banquet at the Seattle Renaissance Hotel.

Announcers noted that The Press was the only news organization in the state to receive a first-place award in the category.

The Press also won the award in 2009 and 2010.

Issaquah Press photographer Greg Farrar also won a third-place award for a photo called “Dance of the Music Fairy.” The photo was taken at one of the Concerts on the Green last year. It was featured on the front page of the paper, as well as the cover of the Issaquah Living magazine.

The Press’ sister paper, Sammamish Review, won third place in the General Excellence category. Sammamish Review Editor Ari Cetron also won a second-place award in the Environment & Science Reporting category for a story titled “Salamanders get a little help from a Sammamish woman.”

Congratulations to the entire staff! This isn’t the first time The Press has taken this huge award and it probably won’t be the last. Great job!
