Thanks to the village for honoring veterans
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, I can tell you it also takes a village to put out the annual Lest We Forget section honoring our annual veterans.
This year’s section is the fifth one we’ve done, and it’s bigger and better than ever.
We were able to write stories about three local World War II veterans and two Vietnam veterans, the most stories we’ve ever done for the section.
We also added two pages and 51 new veterans, for a total of 241 local veterans honored this year. (That isn’t including the 19 from Issaquah who made the ultimate sacrifice to their country during wartime.)
This section wouldn’t exist without the help of local businesses helping pay the printing costs.
Flintoft’s Funeral Home was our very first sponsor, and it and Brown Bear Car Wash have been major sponsors every year we have done this section.
Eastside Family Dentistry has been with us for four years. NAPA Auto Parts of Issaquah and Bellevue Honda have been with us for three years. So has Las Margaritas Restaurant and Earth Pet.
The Issaquah Sportsmen’s Club has also been with us for three years, but this year the club upped its sponsorship to a full page.
Imelda Dulcich PR & Social Media has been with us for two years.
New sponsors include Bellewood Retirement Living, Pearson Law Firm and Market Well.
You will find the names of our main sponsors at the bottom of the pages of the section. Please remember and patronize these businesses who care about the men and women who serve their country.
Several local people also made contributions, and we thank them as well.
Unfortunately, one of the veterans we featured passed away just before the section was printed. I am pleased that we were still able to tell his story, with a little help from Providence Marianwood.
Finally, a big thanks to The Issaquah Press staff who worked on this section.
Reporters David Hayes, Peter Clark, Christina Corrales-Toy and Neil Pierson wrote stories and took photos to go with them. Hayes worked his magic again with the layout. (Email me and tell me what you think of the new cover!)
Breann Getty and Dona Mokin scanned photos of new veterans, and photographer Greg Farrar processed them all.
The biggest thank you goes to all of the men and women who have served this country. Let’s never forget them.
Happy Memorial Day!
