The Issaquah School District has announced that Donna Hood, an assistant principal at Liberty High School, will begin serving as the new principal at Skyline High School effective July 1.

Hood has a long history of academic and teaching excellence, beginning with her degrees in English and German at Long Island University in New York.

She earned a Fulbright scholarship and went on to study for a year at a university in Salzburg, Austria. She earned a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Washington in 2000, and became a National Board Certified teacher in 2005 at Sammamish High School in Bellevue.

Issaquah Superintendent Ron Thiele said in a news release that Hood’s application, along with her time at Liberty, displayed “her core values are honesty, hard work and shared mission. She communicates well and often. Some of her highest priorities are collaborating with teachers to support and strengthen instruction, and building partnerships with her community.”

Hood is replacing outgoing principal Lisa Hechtman, who has accepted the role as executive director of personnel for the Issaquah district.
