The 5K Foam Fest “adventure run” returns to Lake Sammamish State Park on July 12.

Bounce, slide, leap and run through a course filled with obstacles, mud and fluffy white foam. Runners receive a T-shirt and medal, and for those 21 and older, a free alcoholic beverage at the end of the race.

Race organizers encourage participants to embrace the quirky, dress up in costumes, run with friends and focus on fun, rather than speed.

Children ages 10-15 can run the race, but only if accompanied by an adult. Organizers do encourage families to participate, though, and onsite entertainment is available for younger children and spectators, including a bounce house and foam pit.

Registration starts at $70 and increases as the event gets closer. There are more than two dozen waves, or starting times, runners can choose from, beginning as early as 8 a.m. and as late as 1:30 p.m. Register online here.

Parking at Lake Sammamish State Park, 2000 N.W. Sammamish Road, is $10 for a day pass or $30 annually for a Discover Pass. Learn more about that at
