Fred Meyer and QFC stores will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with the fire relief efforts in Washington.

And the change dropped in the coin collection boxes at check stands at all Washington Fred Meyer and QFC stores for the next week will also be donated to the Red Cross.

The Issaquah Fred Meyer is at 6100 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway S.E. There are two Issaquah QFC stores, at 1540 N.W. Gilman Blvd. and 4570 Klahanie Drive S.E.

“With these devastating fires continuing to cause destruction throughout the state, we have heard from many of our customers and employees that they want to find a way to help,” Melinda Merrill, public affairs director for Fred Meyer and QFC stores, said in a news release. “We know from experience that the small change deposited in the coin boxes adds up quickly — we believe it could total at least $20,000 in additional donations.”

The funds for the $50,000 donation will come via the Kroger Co. Foundation.
