Fifty student leaders at the middle-school and high-school levels will convene Aug. 22 at Issaquah High School for the first 2050 Workout.

The workout will feature systems thinking, scenario mapping and public speaking practice. Student teams will present their findings at a free public forum from 6-7 p.m. at the school theater.

The event is the work of Sustainability Ambassadors, a professional development organization linking students, teachers and community leaders in a variety of ecological issues.

The goal of the event is to empower youths to create school sustainability plans by forecasting scenarios for the year 2050, and then work backward and create plans for the 2014-15 school year.
