The Evans family
Sarah Evans was born in Scotland, while husband Thomas was born in Wales. They met and married in the mining regions of Pennsylvania, emigrating to Issaquah in the late 1880s.
They had ten children, most of whom were born in this area. They were: David, Thomas, Lance, William, Robert, Sarah, Marguerite, Elizabeth, Emma and Mary. Of the ten, Bill and Mary are still living.
Thomas and Sarah homesteaded on the east side of town near Evans Lane, which was named after the family. Most of the five boys went to work in the mines at an early age, and many died young.
Out of all those ten children, only Bill raised a family in Issaquah. His son, Bill, operated Evans Salon of Beauty in town for many years, and now his children and grandchildren live in the area.
