Faith Fowler receives fellowship at Hofstra

Faith Fowler, of Issaquah, is one of three students given the opportunity to work on campus this summer through the new Lister Summer Fellowship program at Hofstra University in N.Y.

Fowler is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in forensic science and working under the mentorship of a Chemistry Professor Ling Huang on research geared toward law enforcement and its ability to quickly analyze emerging synthetic designer drugs. For this, Faith has access to state of the art nuclear magnetic resonance.

Five local high school seniors are among its collegiate-sponsored winners for the 2014 scholarship program of the National Merit Scholarship Corp.:

  • Catherine Ball, Issaquah High School, is pursuing a degree in computer programming at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.
  • Grant Vaska, Issaquah High School, will attend Washington University in St. Louis, Minn.
  • Kathleen Park, of Sammamish, will pursue a degree in communications at Wheaton College near Chicago.
  • Shanchen Pu, of Sammamish, will pursue a degree in medicine at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Local students get Alpha Rho scholarships

The Alpha Rho chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa has awarded its annual scholarships of $1,000 to Skyline High School senior Madison Laycock and Issaquah High School senior Cassidy Crickmore to help them further their education.

Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding.
