<p>Courtney Phillips, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2014, has been inducted into the Colgate chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national scholastic honorary society that recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of first-year students.</p>
<p>Phillips received the distinction by earning a grade point average of at least 3.5 during the 2010-2011 academic year.</p>
<p>Phillips, a graduate of The Overlake School in Bellevue, is the daughter of Gerald and Robin Phillips, of Sammamish.</p>

<p>Western Washington University student Mariah Klemens, daughter of Robert and Mary Gordon, of Issaquah, received a $1,000 College of Fine and Performing Arts Dean’s Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year.</p>
<p>The scholarship is awarded to students who have declared and/or been admitted as a major in the College of Fine and Performing Arts.</p>
<p>Klemens, a senior, is majoring in Fine and Performing Arts and plans to graduate in summer 2012.</p>
<p><strong>Issaquah grad named to Duke dean’s list</strong></p>
<p>Michael Migotsky, of Bellevue, Issaquah High School class of 2010, was named to the Duke University’s dean’s list with distinction for the spring 2011 semester.</p>
<p>To qualify, students must earn a grade point average that places them in the highest 10 percent of their class.</p>

<p>Ram Kandasamy, the son of Sivagami and Ramiah Kandasamy, of Sammamish, was awarded a $1,000 Auvil Undergraduate Scholars Fellowship by the University College at Washington State University.</p>
<p>Students receiving the award must be prospective, novice or experienced researchers and should have an identified faculty mentor.</p>
<p>Kandasamy graduated from Skyline High School in 2008. He plans to graduate from WSU in May 2012 with degrees in neuroscience and psychology.</p>
<p>At WSU, Kandasamy was the recipient of the WSU Alcohol and Drug Abuse Grant and the WSU Psychology Department Grant.</p>
<p><span id="more-61262"></span><strong>Local student receives physics research grant</strong></p>
<p>Daniel Giles, of Issaquah, a junior physics major at Westminster College, in New Wilmington, Pa., received an undergraduate research grant from Westminster’s Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.</p>
<p>Giles’ project, “Sights of the Changing Universe,” is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Oberst, Westminster assistant professor of physics.</p>
<p>Giles is a son of Rhinee Yeung, of Issaquah, and a graduate of Issaquah High School.</p>

<p>Taylor Wolfe, of Issaquah, was among 684 students from Miami University of Ohio, in Oxford, Ohio, who graduated in the summer term.</p>
<p>Wolfe received a master’s degree in business administration.</p>

<p>James Rogers, of Renton, was recently named to Western Washington University’s honor roll.</p>
<p>To qualify, students must complete at least 14 graded credit hours during a quarter and be in the top 10 percent of their class.</p>

<p>Michael Migotsky, of Bellevue, a 2010 graduate of Issaquah High School, was named to the dean’s list with distinction for the spring 2011 semester at Duke University, in Durham, N.C.</p>

<p>The William Woods Hunter/Jumper Show Team at William Woods University recently elected officers.</p>
<p>Melanie Hemstreet, of Issaquah, was elected as secretary.</p>
<p><strong>Local students graduate</strong></p>
<p>Justin Flones, of Renton, graduated Aug. 5 from the University of North Dakota, in Grand Rapids, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.</p>
<p>Brianna Lichtenauer, of Renton, graduated Aug. 6 from Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, Ohio, with a master’s degree in fine arts.</p>
<p>Angela Nickerson, of Sammamish, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., this spring with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism (visual emphasis).</p>

<p>Amber Eastham, of Renton, has been awarded an academic honors scholarship for $3,500 for the 2011-12 academic year at Eastern Washington University.</p>
<p>The award is given to outstanding high school graduates with a 3.7 and above grade point average, an SAT score of 1,000 and higher and/or 24 or higher on the ACT.</p>
<p>Eastham, the daughter of Steve and Sharon Eastham, of Renton, graduated from Liberty High School in 2011. She was involved with the Future Educators of America, Teaching Academy and varsity tennis.</p>
<p>She will attend EWU in the fall and she plans to study elementary education.</p>
