Booster club honors Issaquah student athletes
The Issaquah High School Booster Club recently honored four athletes with its Tutta Bella Scholarship Athlete Award:
The award is given to seniors who have shown outstanding accomplishments as athletes, as students and in the community.
Gabrielle Gevers has had phenomenal success as an athlete since her freshman year, despite having little prior experience in organized sports. In her first year of swimming, she qualified for KingCo, districts and state. She continued that success in track and has become one of the premier sprinters in Washington both in the pool and on the track, with multiple medals in both sports.
Gevers has maintained a high grade point average while serving as Associated Student Body vice president and a swim team captain.
Nathan Lee is the tennis team captain, having won the Junior Varsity Athletic Award for 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Lee has maintained a grade point average of 3.8 while being active in the National Honor Society, the Chess Club (where he is a national Chess Master and team captain), the Chemistry Club and DECA, where he was a top test performer at the Area 4 competition.
Outside school, Lee has been a pianist for 10 years and has achieved the rank of 3rd Gup in Tang-Soo-Do.
Nicole Ratcliffe has been in both club and Eagles’ volleyball for three years and is the senior captain.
While maintaining a 3.4 grade point average taking advanced and Advanced Placement classes, Ratcliffe is also active in Associated Student Body and Leadership, is a VOICE mentor helping elementary summer school, and is a student leader in Eagle Crew.
Outside school, Ratcliffe is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a student leader in her church youth group.
Caleb Walin has been involved in IHS cross country, where he has been awarded Most Inspirational for two years. He also won the Coach’s Award and Sophomore Award in swimming.
Walin maintains a 3.75 grade point average and is a National Honor Society member. For the past three years, he has been involved in the Evergreen Philharmonic Orchestra and volunteered for pit orchestra for “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Sound of Music.”
In addition, Walin is an active Boy Scout, serving as a patrol leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He earned his Eagle Scout in 2011. He is an LRC1 student tutor and has participated in Swim for Life, Relay for Life and Cycle the Wave.
