Local Realtors earn regional leadership posts

Joan Probala

Joan Probala, a managing broker at Windermere Real Estate/East in Issaquah, has been elected as the 2013 president of the Seattle King County Realtors.

Probala, a real estate professional since 1990 and resident of Issaquah, serves as vice chairwoman of the Issaquah Planning Policy Commission, chairwoman of the Issaquah Arts Commission and survivor chairwoman for Issaquah Relay for Life. In addition, she is a past president of the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Issaquah.

Also named to the leadership team was Mike Winkler, principal managing broker at Coldwell Banker Bain Issaquah, as this year’s East Region director.

Kiwanis Club of Issaquah coat drive a success

Issaquah Kiwanis annual coat and shoe drive last month collected more than 500 donations for the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank. Several pairs of warm socks and scarves were also donated.

Top donations came from Hawkins Orthodontics with a record 171 coats and shoes, Pine Lake Club’s 84 items and the Liberty High School Key Club’s 74 items.

Skyline twins to dance at inaugural ball

Skyline High School sophomore twins Karishma and Aishwarya Mandyam will be performing the Bharatanatyam dance, an ancient classical dance art form of South India, in the rotunda during the Governor’s Inaugural Ball at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Capitol campus.

Swedish/Issaquah receives patient satisfaction honor

The Swedish/Issaquah emergency room was recently named a 2012 Summit Award Winner by Press Ganey Associates.

The ER received the award by achieving and maintaining patient satisfaction scores in the 95th percentile or above for at least three consecutive years. The Swedish/Issaquah team also won in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The Press Ganey Summit Award is the health care satisfaction industry’s most coveted symbol of achievement bestowed annually. The Swedish/Issaquah ER is one of 114 health care facilities in the country to receive the prestigious honor in 2012, and one of only 101 to receive it for achieving and sustaining excellence in patient satisfaction.

Annelise DiGiacomo, owner and founder of Infitness in Issaquah, was a top 10 finalist in Life Fitness’ Personal Trainers to Watch contest. DiGiacomo was selected from a pool of nearly 1,000 nominees from around the world in the contest’s second year.

Eastside Baby Corner receives $20,000 grant

Eastside Baby Corner received a $20,000 grant from the Windermere Foundation. The grant will allow Eastside Baby Corner to pursue its core mission of providing crucial food and supplies to children in need in Eastside communities.

Now in its 22nd year, the nonprofit organization helps children by distributing almost everything they need, for newborns to age 12, through a network of family-assistance agencies. Learn more about Eastside Baby Corner at www.babycorner.org.

Nicholas Co

Boy Scout Nicholas Co earns Eagle rank

Nicholas Co recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

His Eagle Scout service project was repurposing an unusable space at Issaquah Middle School, contributing nearly 100 hours of service to his community.

Co is the student body president of Issaquah High School, an active member of National Honor Society and he runs as a member of the cross-country and track teams. He is a passionate volunteer of King County Search and Rescue, and was recognized as last year’s Top 5 Youth Responder.

Co plans to study engineering after graduating in June.

Issaquah Nursing and Rehabilitation honored

Issaquah Nursing and Rehabilitation received the 2012 Bronze Commitment to Quality award for its dedication to improving quality care.

The award is one of three distinctions possible through the National Quality Award program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living. The program honors facilities across the nation that demonstrated their commitment to the quality improvement journey.

Sleep Country tops 50,000 donations

Sleep Country tallied up 50,309 total items donated in its annual School Supply Drive for Foster Kids. School supplies were donated at Sleep Country locations from July 30 to Sept. 9.

Donations were distributed among 18 foster-care nonprofit partners in the Northwest and in Issaquah, and support foster children served by Treehouse, Bethany Christian Services, Community & Family Services Foundation, Intensive Children’s Services and Olive Crest.

Elks Lodge takes Special Olympians to Mariners game

The Lake Sammamish Elks Lodge in Issaquah took 60 Special Olympics youths and their caregivers to a Seattle Mariners baseball game Sept. 23 thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Elks National Foundation.

The money also paid for transportation and refreshment costs.

The Mariners acknowledged the Special Olympians in attendance at the end of the fourth inning on the large scoreboard. The youths are members of the Issaquah Special Olympics baseball team.
