Greater Issaquah Toastmasters honored
The Greater Issaquah Toastmasters has achieved Toastmasters International’s highest distinction for a fifth straight year.
To earn the distinction of President’s Distinguished Club, a club must meet at least nine of 10 challenging criteria.
In addition, members Dan Bone, Holly Greenspoon and Madeline Wall recently completed their Competent Communication Manual, which comprises the first 10 Toastmasters speeches, each focusing on development of a specific speaking skill. Upon completion of the Competent Communication Manual, members move into advanced manuals and are eligible for membership in advanced clubs.

Four Scouts earn Eagle rank
Four Boy Scouts from Issaquah Troop 609 — Eric Hall, Zach Hall, Ben Fairhart and Jacob Tierney — earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting’s highest honor, at a court of honor ceremony June 4 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Bellevue.
Eric Hall planned and led for his Eagle Scout Project a volunteer effort to build the initial 150 feet of new trail in Squak Valley Park. Eric is an accomplished musician in the Issaquah High School wind ensemble, jazz band and Village Theatre Summerstock pit orchestra. Eric also plays football for the IHS football team and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Zach Hall planned and coordinated Scout and neighborhood volunteers to replace 30 yards of sand at South Cove Beach, repair signage and clean up landscaping. Zach is a proficient musician in the IHS wind ensemble, jazz band, Evergreen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Village Theatre Summerstock pit orchestra. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and Japanese Club.
Ben Fairhart’s Eagle project involved the restoration of 150 feet of trail in Squak Valley Park. Outside of Scouting, Ben enjoys playing bass guitar with his band, The Greasy Spoon. Together they have performed in Issaquah, Snoqualmie, Buckley and most recently at El Corazon, in Seattle. He has also been active in service projects and mission trips through his church.
For his Eagle Scout project, Jacob “Jake” Tierney planned and organized the construction and ultimate emplacement of five wood duck nesting boxes along the shores of Lake Tradition. During this project, Jake also coordinated and supervised the relocation of wooden benches to a more useful location adjacent to Lake Tradition. Jake graduated with honors from Liberty High School on June 11. He will study engineering at Santa Clara University, in California in September. Jacob is also the proud recipient of a U.S. Air Force ROTC scholarship.

Issaquah Wells Fargo officer earns premier advisor designation
Susan Lawrence, senior vice president – investment officer, has been designated as a premier advisor for the fifth straight year.
To qualify, financial advisors must demonstrate a high level of production and commitment to professional service.
Lawrence, who lives in Issaquah with her husband and four children, has been a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors for 15 years and has 25 years experience in the brokerage industry. She has a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.

Issaquah Women’s Club awards scholarships
The Issaquah Women’s Club has awarded $1,000 Follow Your Dream scholarships to Audrey Johnson and Ngozi Monu.
The Issaquah Women’s Club awards the scholarships to graduating senior high school girls from the Issaquah School District who wish to pursue their college education or vocational training as they follow their dreams for the future.
Johnson, from Tiger Mountain Community High School, has been accepted to and will attend the Northwest College of Art and Design. She will pursue her interest in graphic design and photography.
Monu, from Issaquah High School, has been accepted to and will attend the University of Washington. She will pursue her interest in human resource management.

Issaquah Grange honors Betty Jo Wiggins
As part of National Grange Month, the Issaquah Valley Grange No. 581 honored Betty Jo Wiggins with its Community Service Volunteer award for 2012 at its meeting May 14.
Wiggins has served the community in various volunteer capacities for more than 60 years.

Issaquah History Museums director wins county award
The Association of King County Historical Organizations recently honored Erica Maniez for her long-term leadership of the Issaquah History Museums.
The association chose Maniez for its 2012 Willard Jue Memorial Award, citing her 12 years of work in locating and digitally cataloging items for the museums’ collections, capturing oral histories of longtime Issaquah residents, providing local schoolchildren with educational programs and tours, and writing two books about local history.
King County Councilman Larry Phillips presented the award to Maniez at a ceremony at the Museum of History & Industry in Seattle.

Kaileen Dougherty is awarded the PEO STAR Scholarship
Kaileen Dougherty, a senior at Issaquah High School, recently received the prestigious PEO STAR Scholarship for the 2012-13 academic year.
Dougherty is the daughter of Maria and Keith Dougherty. She was recommended for the scholarship by Chapter HV, of Redmond.
She has been accepted and will attend American University in Washington, D.C., where she plans to study public policy and broadcasting beginning this fall.
The PEO STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application.

Triad Financial Strategies, an award-winning wealth management firm located in Issaquah, recently announced that Tait Lane, its managing principal and CEO, has been selected as a 2012 FIVE STAR Wealth Manager. His selection will be published in the April 2012 issue of Seattle Magazine.
Lane has been in the financial industry since 1998. His areas of practice include asset management, alternative investments, estate planning and retirement planning, and income strategies.

Local students earn Eagle Scout rank
Ian Engelbeck, a senior at Skyline High School, and Douglas Dietzel, a 2011 Skyline graduate and student at Washington State University, have earned the highest honor in Boy Scouting, the rank of Eagle Scout.
Engelbeck has been involved in Scouting since 2000 and joined Troop 636 in 2005. He has been a camp counselor at Camp Parsons on Hood Canal for the past two summers and will work there again this summer. His Eagle Service Project involved planning, supervising and organizing volunteers to build an observation deck at the Evans Creek Preserve in Sammamish.
Dietzel has been involved in Scouting since 1999 and joined Troop 636 in 2004. His Eagle Service Project involved planning, supervising and organizing volunteers to build a shelter at the preschool playground at Faith United Methodist Church.
Both Scouts were honored at a ceremony at Faith United Methodist Church on March 11.

Issaquah resident honored
Lisa Whatley, of Issaquah, was recently awarded the Nancy Danoff, MD, Spirit of Service Award at the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington’s annual awards presentation in Lacey.
The award recognizes individuals who promote, protect and support breastfeeding as a vital part of the health and development of children and families.
Whatley is a registered nurse and International Board Certified lactation consultant at Evergreen Healthcare, in Kirkland, and is also a private practice lactation consultant providing home visits in the community.
